A large congregation of Demoiselle Cranes (Anthropoides virgo), locally known as Kurja, at the Pakshi Chugga Ghar bird-feeding enclosure in Khichan village near Phalodi, Rajasthan, India. Hundreds of migratory cranes gather across the sandy feeding ground, while a few birds are seen flying overhead during their winter stay in the Thar Desert region. The community-managed feeding enclosure is maintained by local residents, who provide grain to support the seasonal population of Demoiselle Cranes. Traditional village houses, boundary walls, and sparse desert vegetation form the backdrop to one of India's best-known wintering sites for these migratory birds.
