A large gathering of Demoiselle Cranes (Anthropoides virgo), locally known as Kurja or Koonj, at the Pakshi Chugga Ghar in Khichan village, Rajasthan. Every winter, these migratory cranes travel thousands of kilometres from Central Asia, Mongolia, and parts of Europe to the Thar Desert, where they spend the season before returning to their breeding grounds. The birds are seen feeding together in the open feeding area, where the local community has continued the tradition of providing grain for decades. During the migration season, villagers feed the cranes with large quantities of grain every day, helping support one of India's most well-known examples of community-based bird conservation.
