migratory Demoiselle Cranes (Anthropoides virgo) gathered at the renowned Pakshi Chugga Ghar (Bird Feeding Enclosure) in Khichan Village, Phalodi district, Rajasthan, India. Locally known as Kurja, these elegant migratory birds arrive every winter after traveling thousands of kilometers from breeding grounds across Central Asia, Mongolia, and parts of Europe. Hundreds of cranes are seen feeding together inside the community-managed enclosure, where local residents provide grain daily as part of a long-standing conservation initiative. The Pakshi Chugga Ghar has become internationally known for its successful community-based effort to protect and sustain the annual migration of Demoiselle Cranes in the Thar Desert region.
