Demoiselle Cranes (Grus virgo), locally known as Kurja, at the famous Pakshi Chugga Ghar in Khichan village, Rajasthan. Every winter, these migratory birds travel thousands of kilometres from Central Asia, Mongolia, and parts of Eurasia to spend the season in the Thar Desert. A large flock gathered on the community-managed feeding ground, where the cranes feed, rest, and move together across the open enclosure. As the birds continue feeding, many of them take to the sky, flying in groups and circling overhead before returning to the ground to rejoin the flock. The background features the desert landscape and village buildings of Khichan, located in the Phalodi region of Rajasthan.
