A battle of sorts ensues when the mother Coppersmith Barbet brings in a rather large and tough bit of fruit. The mother is worried the chicks can choke on it, so she batters it in her beak, with help from the young one that is eager to consume it. Only when the mother is happy that the food is soft and mashed enough does she let the chick take it in! A Crimson-breasted Barbet chick emerges at its nest-hole entrance, calling out to its mother Coppersmith in a repetitive tone. The mother enters the nest with Ficus figs crushed and placed within its beak, to feed the chicks. It emerges with their poop to discard afar. Nesting within a Subabul tree at our Wilderness Orchard bird sanctuary in Delhi, these birds have had a successful double nesting season in this same nest hole in the spring and
