Thousands of Demoiselle Cranes (Anthropoides virgo), locally known as Kurja, gather at the famous Pakshi Chugga Ghar bird feeding enclosure in Khichan village, near Phalodi in Rajasthan. Every winter, these graceful migratory birds travel thousands of kilometers from Central Asia and Mongolia to the Thar Desert, where they find food, water, and protection through one of India's most successful community-led bird conservation initiatives. Vast congregation of cranes covering the sandy feeding grounds, with traditional stone, brick, and concrete houses of rural Rajasthan forming the backdrop. The Pakshi Chugga Ghar is managed with the support of local residents and organizations such as the Shree Pakshi Chuggaghar Sanstha, which provides hundreds of kilograms of grain daily to sustain the mi
