The Great Barbet (Psilopogon virens) is a striking and vibrant bird native to the forests of the Himalayan foothills and parts of Northeast India. It is the largest barbet species found in India, easily recognized by its bright green body, vivid blue and yellow markings, and large red bill. This arboreal bird is often seen perched on tree branches, feeding on fruits, berries, and occasionally insects. Its deep, resonant calls are characteristic of the forests it inhabits, making it a prominent presence in both subtropical and temperate woodland areas. The Great Barbet plays an important role in seed dispersal and maintaining forest ecosystems.
