White-capped Redstart (Phoenicurus leucocephalus), also known as the White-capped Water Redstart or River Chat, is observed perched atop a wooden branch in the forests of Motidhar, Mussoorie, Uttarakhand. This striking Himalayan bird is easily recognized by its glossy black plumage, rich chestnut-red underparts, and the distinctive white patch crowning its head. The bird remains alert as it scans its surroundings, frequently turning its head and watching the nearby habitat. After spending a few moments perched, it begins preening its feathers, carefully grooming itself to maintain feather condition and insulation.
