A Great Barbet (Psilopogon virens), the largest member of the barbet family, perched on a moss-covered branch in the forests of Moti Dhar, Mussoorie, Uttarakhand. With its vibrant green plumage, blue head, and distinctive yellow bill, the Great Barbet is one of the most iconic birds of the Himalayan region. In this scene, the bird is seen holding a bright red berry in its powerful bill, highlighting its frugivorous diet. Great Barbets play an important ecological role as seed dispersers, helping maintain the health and regeneration of Himalayan forests. Their deep, resonant calls are a familiar sound in the oak, pine, and mixed broadleaf forests of the middle Himalayas.
