A male Himalayan woodpecker (Dendrocopos himalayensis) is observed on a sloping forest floor in Uttarakhand, surrounded by green vegetation, moss and fallen leaves. The bird moves and hops across the ground, appearing to search for food among the vegetation and leaf litter. Its black-and-white plumage, white shoulder patches and red crown are visible. The Himalayan woodpecker is a mountain forest species found across parts of the northern Indian subcontinent.
