A vibrant Brown-headed Barbet perched on a sturdy tree branch amidst lush green foliage. A common resident of the Indian subcontinent, this colorful bird is easily recognized by its bright olive-green body, heavily streaked brown head and breast, and a large reddish-orange bill. The prominent patch of bare orange-red skin around its eyes adds to its distinctive appearance. With its beak held wide open, the barbet may be delivering its characteristic repetitive call that echoes through forests, orchards, and urban gardens. Alternatively, during hot weather, barbets often gape or pant to help regulate their body temperature.
