This footage documents two important and rarely explained natural behaviours of the Brown-headed Barbet (Psilopogon zeylanicus), offering valuable insight into its daily life. In the first sequence, the barbet is seen gnawing and pecking at tree bark, a behaviour strongly associated with nest excavation. As a primary cavity nester, this species uses its robust red-brown beak to chip away at semi-rotten trunks or sturdy branches, gradually creating nesting cavities for breeding and roosting. The second sequence shows the barbet eating small stones, a completely normal and essential digestive behaviour.
