Brown-headed barbet nesting in a tree cavity and foraging insects. The Brown-headed Barbet (Psilopogon zeylanicus) is known for its unique nesting behaviour, where it pecks holes into soft tree trunks to create secure cavities. These self-made nests provide protection for eggs and chicks. Alongside nesting, the bird actively forages for insects, using its strong beak to pick prey from bark and foliage. Though primarily a fruit-eater, it supplements its diet with insects, especially during the breeding season. Common in urban gardens and wooded areas, this species plays an important ecological role in both seed dispersal and insect control.
