A Brown-headed Barbet (Psilopogon zeylanicus) clinging to a tree trunk in Wilderness Orchard. The bird is identified by its green plumage, streaked brown head, and strong pale bill. It is carrying an insect larva to a nesting cavity excavated within the tree. Brown-headed Barbets often increase their use of protein-rich insects during the breeding season to feed developing chicks. The species creates nest chambers by chiseling circular entrance holes into dead or decaying wood. Common across the Indian subcontinent, these birds inhabit orchards, gardens, wooded areas, and forest edges. The video shows an adult barbet delivering food to its young inside a tree-cavity nest.
