Natural camouflage is displayed by an Indian Stone-curlew chick and its egg resting on a simple ground nest in Wilderness Orchard. The chick's mottled brown and buff plumage blends seamlessly with the surrounding soil, stones, and dry vegetation, making it extremely difficult to spot. Nearby, the egg is similarly patterned with speckles and earth-toned markings that help conceal it from potential predators. This adaptation is crucial for ground-nesting birds, providing protection during the vulnerable stages of incubation and early development.
