Having successfully reared a brood of two, this Eurasian Stone Curlew mum stands by its chicks with great determination and confidence. Note the large yellow eyes that let in more light at night, this being a nocturnal and crepuscular bird. Also, note the 'curlew hiccups' from the parents and chicks alike, and the mud on the mother's beak. Notice how the chicks sit with their feet bent forwards! At the first sign of danger, they are taught to duck into the grass and sit still! Cutest bird babies you ever saw!
