The Indian flying fox (Pteropus medius), a large fruit bat species, is often observed at night perched on the branches of semal trees (Bombax ceiba). These nocturnal creatures are known for their distinctive feeding behaviour, where they hang suspended from the branches, consuming the berries, which are round-shaped seeds produced by the semal tree. The interaction highlights the ecological relationships between the flying fox and its environment, underlining the bat’s role in seed dispersal and pollination within its habitat.
