A pair of Three toed Golden-backed Woodpeckers in the Shivalik forests of Corbett National Park in Uttarakhand, India. The Golden-backed Three-toed Woodpecker has a dark brown bill, hazel iris and greenish legs. The male has crimson crown and occipital crest whereas the female has whole black crown and occipital crest, with elongated subterminal spots on each feather. The Golden-backed Three-toed Woodpecker is common throughout Burma, Cambodia, Cochin China, Borneo, Sumatra and India. The species has a shrill call and it is equally familiar with those of genus Brachypternus. They lay their eggs, like other woodpeckers, in holes in trees.
