A Great Spotted Woodpecker is perched on a moss-covered log within a forest habitat while searching for insects beneath the bark surface. The bird displays its distinctive black-and-white plumage pattern along with a visible red patch on the back of its head. Using its strong pointed beak, the woodpecker repeatedly probes and pecks into the decaying wood while foraging for insects and larvae.
