A Yellow-crowned Woodpecker (Leiopicus mahrattensis) perched on a moss-covered tree trunk as it searches for food. The bird carefully inspects the bark, pausing to probe crevices with its pointed bill in search of insects and larvae hidden beneath the surface. It repeatedly scans its surroundings before shifting its position along the trunk, demonstrating the deliberate foraging behaviour typical of woodpeckers. The close-up view also highlights the species' distinctive golden-yellow crown, boldly streaked underparts, and black-and-white patterned wings as it feeds in its forest habitat.
