This Red-vented Bulbul and White-eye are almost keeling over in their hunt for black ripe Lantana berries inside a shrub at the Wilderness Orchard! It's truly party time when the berries ripen. This White-eye is picking the best blackest and ripest Lantana camara berries to eat, proving that White Eyes are not just insect eaters but prolific fruit eaters too. And the invasive Lantana is quite a hit with our local birds! At first look, it seems that this small Indian White-eye (Zosterops palpebrosus) is swallowing a tiny metal ball but on a closer look, it seems to be a ripe Lantana berry. Though these birds normally are known to feed primarily on nectar and small insects, this little bird is quite clearly fond of berries as well.
