Streptopeilia chinensis is the common and serene Spotted Dove of the Indian subcontinent. However, the Red-whiskered Bulbul, while a jocular and pleasing bird have around, has increased in numbers to a huge extent in places around Munnar and across the Nilgiris, perhaps due to the widespread growth of Lantana camera, an invasive shrub that came in from South America. The Bulbuls love the black berry like fruit that they also help disperse across a wide range, in their droppings. Of course, the Jungle Babbler (which does a nice backwards jump before our camera!) is a common resident throughout the subcontinent, known in Hindi as the Satbhai even though the English name is Seven Sisters. So whether brothers or sisters, they are clearly gregarious! This footage is part of the broadcast stock
