An Indian Pond Heron (Ardeola grayii) perched quietly on a low-hanging branch beside a wetland. Remaining perfectly still, the bird carefully scans the water below in search of fish, insects, and other aquatic prey. Its cryptic brown plumage, marked with fine streaks and earthy tones, blends remarkably well with surrounding branches, reeds, and floating lily pads, providing excellent camouflage. Commonly found around ponds, marshes, lakes, and wetlands across the Indian subcontinent, the Indian Pond Heron is a skilled ambush hunter known for its patience and stealth.
