An Indian pond heron (Ardeola grayii) in its non-breeding plumage. The bird displays brown streaking across the head, neck, and breast with buff-brown upperparts that provide camouflage while hunting near water bodies. The species is identified by its stocky body, short neck, and thick pointed bill. The heron is seen standing alert and scanning its surroundings intensely, behaviour commonly associated with prey detection while feeding on fish, insects, amphibians, and tadpoles. Indian pond herons are known for remaining motionless for long periods before striking at prey. Bird calls and natural ambient sounds are audible in the background during the scene.
