A well-camouflaged Indian Pond Heron, also known as the paddybird, is seen resting near a water body in New Delhi. In its non-breeding plumage, the bird appears brown and streaked, allowing it to blend seamlessly into muddy banks, grasses, and wetland surroundings. This small heron is commonly found across the Indian subcontinent in habitats such as ponds, canals, rice paddies, and marshes. It is a patient and solitary hunter, often standing motionless for long periods before striking quickly to catch fish, frogs, crustaceans, and insects.
