Indian pond herons (Ardeola grayii) are perched within dense, tangled branches of a tree in a wilderness orchard setting. Their plumage blends with the brown and green tones of the branches, providing effective camouflage. One individual is engaged in preening, using its beak to maintain feather condition. The birds remain stationary on inner branches, partially obscured by foliage. The setting reflects a mixed habitat where cultivated and natural vegetation coexist. Fine details of posture and feather structure are visible during the grooming activity.
