This footage captures an Indian Pond Heron (Ardeola grayii) foraging along a weathered stone embankment beside a water body. The bird carefully walks across layered rocks, scanning the water's edge for potential prey such as small fish, insects, tadpoles, and other aquatic organisms. Below the stone bank, the dark water is covered with dense mats of floating green aquatic vegetation, creating a productive habitat for a variety of wetland species. The heron remains alert and motionless at times, relying on patience and camouflage before making sudden movements to capture prey. Commonly found near ponds, lakes, marshes, rivers, and urban wetlands across the Indian subcontinent, the Indian Pond Heron is a skilled hunter adapted to life around freshwater ecosystems.
