This Pond Heron is certainly behaving like a Bittern but is very much a Heron! See the concentration on its face and eyes, as it sits stock still in the pond so as not to give away its presence or location to the fish below! A lone Yellow Bittern (Ixobrychus sinensis) is filmed in a marsh at our Wilderness Orchard among the large water lily leaves. Notice the bird scouting for small fishes and aquatic insects while treading the water carefully with calculated steps. These small bitterns are found in northern India where they also breed.
