The Studded Sergeant (Athyma asura), often referred to as the Himalayan Studded Sergeant, is a striking butterfly commonly seen in the forests and foothills of the Himalayas. This species belongs to the Nymphalidae family and is admired for its bold wing patterns and graceful flight. The butterfly features dark brown to black wings marked with distinctive white spots and bands, giving it a beautifully patterned appearance. When resting with its wings open, the contrasting markings become clearly visible, helping it stand out against the green foliage of forest habitats. The Studded Sergeant is typically found in subtropical and temperate forests, especially along forest trails, clearings, and riverbanks in the Himalayan foothills.
