A Himalayan Tree Pie sits on our old Cypress tree and preens its feathers. Having bathed in our little stream, this Himalayan Tree Pie dries off and preens on a twig nearby. It is a shy retiring Corvid family crow like forest bird that is not often seen near hill stations, but prefers thick forest cover in river valleys and moist ravines. Normally arboreal or tree dwelling birds, Himalayan Treepies or Grey Treepies (Dendrocitta formosae) will willingly come to the forest floor and sit on the ground to feed on any scattered seeds or grains. These birds are fairly omnivorous and will eat anything from grains and seeds to eggs, insects, small invertebrates and even small reptiles.
