Asian Openbill Stork in the wetlands of Ranthambore. An Asian Openbill Stork carefully scanning shallow water while searching for prey in its wetland habitat. This medium-sized wading bird is well known across South and Southeast Asia for the distinctive gap in its bill, an evolutionary adaptation specially suited for extracting freshwater snails from their shells. The bird displays pale grey-white plumage contrasted by darker glossy flight feathers and long slender legs adapted for wading through marshes and shallow ponds. Asian Openbills are commonly found near lakes, wetlands, flooded fields, and riverbanks, where they forage attentively for snails, mollusks, and other aquatic prey.
