The bird’s large size and vibrant plumage—shades of green, blue, yellow, and red—are intermittently visible as it sits quietly among the leaves. The natural cover provides camouflage, allowing the barbet to remain concealed while observing its surroundings. Great Barbets are among the largest barbet species in the Himalayas, commonly found in broadleaf forests, mixed woodlands, and forest edges. They are primarily frugivorous, feeding on berries, figs, and other fruits, which makes wild berry trees an important food source.
