The Indian Pied Myna (Gracupica contra), also known as the Asian Pied Starling, is a lively and adaptable bird that is frequently seen in urban green spaces, such as the Wilderness Orchard in Delhi. With its glossy black upperparts, contrasting white underparts, and distinctive orange-red facial skin around the eyes and base of the bill, this species is both elegant and energetic. When semal trees (Bombax ceiba) burst into bloom, their large, fleshy red flowers become a magnet for nectar-feeding birds and insects. The Indian Pied Myna takes full advantage of this seasonal bounty, hopping actively from flower to flower.
