A Flameback woodpecker is seen in slow motion in front of a tree hollow digging into the wood with its beak. Watch the colourful bird rocking its flaming head back and forth working its way into the wood for more insect larvae. With mild golden specks on its back and the not the flaming golden colour in this non-breeding winter season, this male Golden-backed Woodpecker is prospecting this tree trunk nest hole which was used by a Magpie Robin couple for nesting in the previous season. It settles in to the nest hold as if to try it out for size. "It fits", it declares and then peeks out to see the view from the sitting room window!
