Two well-known wetland bird species commonly found across the Indian subcontinent — the Red-wattled Lapwing (Vanellus indicus) and the White-breasted Waterhen (Amaurornis phoenicurus). The Red-wattled Lapwing is recognized by its striking black head and chest, contrasting white facial stripe, sandy-brown upperparts, long yellow legs, and distinctive red facial wattles near the eyes. Its sharp call and alert behavior make it one of the most recognizable wader birds in India. Also visible is the White-breasted Waterhen, a medium-sized rail species identified by its bright white face, neck, and breast contrasting against dark slate-grey upperparts.
