The source of the Ganga river lies at Gaumukh which is just below the glacial shelf of Tapovan at the end of the Gangotri glacier. Standing high above is the Indian Matterhorn - Mr. Shivling with the smaller black stony Baby Shivling. Behind the ridge stands Mt. Meru - the center of the Hindu universe, with the Meru glacier. On a clear day, one can see right across from Shivling, to the other side of the Gangotri glacier, beyong Gaumukh and Bhojwas, to the range of the peaks of Siafe, Koteshwar and Thelu, and down the valley towards Gangotri temple. Did you know that the Ganga initially flows north, unlike all other Himalayan rivers? Across the Gangotri glacier, one can see the pea of Vasuki Parbat which has Vasuki Tal at its base - lovely high altitude tarn. Closer to the source of the Ga
