A Streak-throated Woodpecker (Picus xanthopygaeus) is observed in the Himalayan region, showcasing its distinctive yellowish-green plumage. Its most defining feature is the heavily streaked or “scaled” underside, which extends from the throat down to the belly, giving it a textured appearance. The bird is typically seen clinging to tree trunks, using its strong beak to probe bark in search of insects. Its posture and movement reflect the classic behaviour of woodpeckers, adapted for life on vertical surfaces. Set against the forested Himalayan backdrop, the bird blends well with the natural tones of the environment while still standing out due to its unique markings.
