A female Himalayan Woodpecker actively pecking and drilling into a tree trunk in the temperate forests of the Himalayas. The bird repeatedly taps its strong beak against the bark while searching for insects and larvae hidden beneath the wood, displaying the classic feeding behavior typical of woodpecker species. The Himalayan Woodpecker is recognized by its glossy black upperparts, bold white shoulder patches, spotted wings, pale buff underparts, and distinctive black facial markings. This individual is identifiable as a female due to its fully black crown, whereas males possess a striking crimson-red crown.
