A Streak-throated Woodpecker (Picus xanthopygaeus) is observed going about its daily routine in the forests of Jabarkhet, Mussoorie, Uttarakhand. Perched on a dry tree branch, the bird carefully preens its olive-green plumage, an essential behavior for maintaining feather condition and insulation. After grooming, it takes flight and lands on a nearby tree, where it begins climbing the trunk using its strong feet and stiff tail for support. The woodpecker then inspects the bark and crevices in search of insects and larvae hidden beneath the surface. Its distinctive streaked throat and bright yellow rump are visible as it moves through the woodland habitat.
