Kanwar Yatri Walks with Traditional Kanwars During Haridwar Yatra

Kanwar Yatri, who undertake the pilgrimage to Haridwar, Gaumukh, or other holy sites to collect Gangajal, usually carry a variety of essential items during the Kanwar Yatra. The most important is the kanwar itself — a decorated bamboo pole balanced on the shoulders, with two water pots or containers tied at both ends to carry the sacred Ganga water. Many Yatris also decorate their kanwar with religious symbols, colorful cloth, flowers, bells, and flags. Along with the kanwar, pilgrims typically carry personal essentials such as small bags, water bottles, food items, towels, and sometimes first-aid kits. Many also wear distinct saffron-colored clothes, symbolizing devotion to Lord Shiva. Some groups travel with support vehicles carrying bedding, spare clothes, footwear, and supplies. The jo
