The distinctive floating leaves, soft surface texture, and paired leaf arrangement suggest it could be one of the well-known species such as Giant Salvinia (Salvinia molesta), Floating Fern (Salvinia natans), or Common Salvinia (Salvinia minima). These free-floating ferns thrive on still or slow-moving freshwater surfaces, forming delicate yet dense green mats. Salvinia species are notable for their unique water-repellent hairs, which allow them to float easily, while their root-like submerged modified leaves absorb nutrients directly from the water. They are commonly found in ponds, lakes, wetlands, and marshy ecosystems across tropical and subtropical regions, including many parts of India
