A Jute Hairy Caterpillar (Spilosoma obliqua) is seen resting or crawling on a fresh green leaf, displaying its characteristic hairy body covered with dense bristles. This caterpillar belongs to the moth family Erebidae and is commonly found in tropical and subtropical regions of South Asia, including India. The caterpillar is easily recognizable due to its dark body and thick tufts of hair, which serve as a protective defense mechanism against predators. These hairs can deter birds and other insect-eating animals from attacking it. As the larval stage of a moth, the caterpillar spends most of its time feeding on plant leaves to store energy for its transformation into an adult moth.
