A stink bug, also known as a shield bug from the family Pentatomidae, is seen resting quietly on the sturdy stem of a common sunflower (Helianthus annuus). These insects are easily recognized by their shield-shaped bodies, which give them the name “shield bugs.” Their coloration often ranges from green and brown to mottled patterns, helping them blend effectively with plant stems and leaves. The common sunflower, a large annual plant belonging to the daisy family Asteraceae, provides an ideal habitat for many insects. With its thick stems, broad leaves, and nutrient-rich tissues, it attracts a variety of plant-feeding species, including stink bugs.
