A female or non-breeding male Common Rosefinch (Carpodacus erythrinus) perched on a bare branch in soft, warm light. The bird has warm brown plumage with fine streaks on its breast and a short, thick, pale beak, and it lacks the bright red head and breast of an adult breeding male. It looks around alertly, turning its head from side to side, and calls as it watches. Common rosefinches are small finches that spend the winter in India, and the plain brown birds are easy to miss among the branches. The footage gives a close, quiet look at the bird’s subtle colours and watchful behaviour.
