A magnificent Great Barbet perched on a moss-covered branch in Jabarkhet Nature Reserve. In another glimpse, the bird can be seen sitting among wild berries, highlighting its fondness for fruits found in Himalayan forests. The Great Barbet is the largest barbet species in Asia and is instantly recognizable by its striking combination of colors—a bluish-violet head, a massive pale-yellow bill, a chestnut-brown upper back, and vibrant green wings and body. Its yellowish, streaked underparts add to its distinctive appearance. A resident of the lower and middle Himalayan forests, the Great Barbet is often heard before it is seen, thanks to its loud, far-carrying calls that echo through the mountains.
