A female Asian Koel (Eudynamys scolopaceus), a large cuckoo species widely distributed across the Indian subcontinent. Unlike the glossy black male, the female displays beautifully patterned plumage consisting of dark brown upperparts heavily marked with creamy-white spots and streaks. This mottled coloration provides excellent camouflage among leaves and branches. The bird's long tail is marked with distinctive white barring, while its striking crimson-red eyes stand out against the darker plumage. A pale, slightly curved bill completes the species' distinctive appearance. Asian Koels are best known for their loud, melodious calls during the breeding season and their unusual nesting strategy as brood parasites, laying their eggs in the nests of other birds, particularly crows.
