Large numbers of flamingos visit Sambhar Lake during the winter, transforming the salt flats. The flamingos may be observed leisurely hunting for food while wading across shallow waters in the hazy morning air. By dipping their curved beaks into the water, they filter-feed, consuming the algae and microscopic creatures present in the salty lake. The birds move gently in small groups, and the gentle fog creates a surreal atmosphere. On chilly winter mornings, flamingos frequently stand on one leg to preserve body heat. For these migratory birds, Sambhar Lake in Rajasthan serves as a vital wintering location, providing food and shelter.
