The Purple Heron or Ardea purpurea is a wading bird in the heron family Ardeidae. Found breeding in Africa, central and southern Europe, and southern and eastern Asia. It feeds in shallow water, catching fish, frogs, insects, small mammals, reptiles and small birds. It will mostly wait motionless for prey, or slowly stalk its victim. Purple Herons fly with their necks folded back onto their shoulders which gives them a pouched or keeled look. They have slim bills which are large and strong enough to kill even large snakes. Their long necks give them a long and powerful reach. Keoladeo Ghana National Park, is located in Rajasthan and is famous for its wide variety of birds all over the world.
