A Common Myna perched on a tree branch in Wilderness Orchard. One of the most familiar birds across the Indian subcontinent, the Common Myna is easily recognized by its chocolate-brown body, glossy black head, bright yellow beak, yellow legs, and the distinctive patch of bare yellow skin behind each eye. The bird is seen with its beak open, which may indicate that it is calling or using gular fluttering and panting to regulate body temperature during warm weather. Common Mynas are highly intelligent, vocal, and adaptable birds that thrive in both natural and human-modified environments. They are often found in gardens, orchards, parks, agricultural fields, and urban areas, where they feed on insects, fruits, seeds, and other food sources.
