Hundreds of Demoiselle Cranes (Anthropoides virgo), locally known as Kurja, gather across the open feeding grounds at Khichan village near Phalodi in Rajasthan. The footage captures the remarkable sight of these migratory birds walking, feeding, and resting together in one of India's most celebrated bird conservation sites. A few cranes soar overhead while the majority forage across the dry, sandy landscape. Set against the backdrop of traditional stone and concrete houses on the edge of the Thar Desert, Khichan has become internationally known for its long-standing community-led conservation efforts. Every winter, thousands of Demoiselle Cranes migrate from Central Asia and Mongolia to this region, where local volunteers provide grain daily and help protect the birds throughout the season
